Bijar Rugs
Bijar rugs, woven in the Kurdish town of Bijar in northwestern Iran, are legendary for their strength, earning the nickname "Iron Rugs of Persia." Weavers use exceptionally high-quality wool and knot it into an extremely dense, tightly packed pile, often using a distinctive wet-weaving method that makes the foundation remarkably firm. The result is a thick, rigid rug that resists crushing and wear for generations. Common designs include all-over floral patterns, herati motifs, and medallions in deep blues, rich reds, and ivory.
