Single-Wefted Persian Rugs

Explore the renowned weaving villages surrounding the historic city of Hamadan, Iran. Although many of these villages are located some distance from the city itself, their rugs are collectively classified as Hamadan rugs, with some exceptions. This shared identity comes from the signature Hamadan weave—a single-weft construction that distinguishes these pieces and ties them to the region’s celebrated weaving tradition.

These villages only represent a few of the hundreds of villages in the area that actually produce Persian rugs. 

Double-Wefted Persian Rugs

Here, we highlight some of the key rug-producing cities known for weaving double-wefted rugs. While hundreds of villages across Iran specialize in single-wefted weaving, these account for only about 10–15% of the country’s rug production. The vast majority of Iran’s handmade rugs are created using the double-wefted technique, a hallmark of strength and durability.
