A hand-loomed rug is manufactured on a giant loom, pressing woven threads together at a greater speed than a hand-knotted rug, which is knotted around two warps, one knot at a time. While both sound handmade, the hand-knotted rug may last for generations while the hand-loomed rug will likely last less than a single decade.
Another example of handmade manufacturing of rugs is the hand-tufted rug, which isn't knotted at all. With the use of a tufting gun, the rug maker is able to quickly punch threads through a canvas. To complete the rug, a backing is glued on, which makes these rugs very distinguishable from other types of rug production.
At SHOPPERSIANRUGS we've decided we'd only offer hand-knotted rugs and flatweave rugs like Soumaks & Kilims, since hand-loomed rugs break down much quicker than what we expect for our customers.
