of Hamadan area

I should start out by clarifying that we are talking about Khamseh Rugs from the Hamadan area and not Khamseh from the Fars Province of western Iran.

Khamseh of Hamadan makes up a class of rugs very similar to the one in the photo. Designs are considered the most simple within the city of Hamadan.  They are typically based on a Herati pattern and hook medallion. You will find various shades of reds, with navy blue, brown, green, orange, pink, ivory and others.  Color schemes vary from one rug to another.  Abrash - color changes in pile are commonly done intentionally.
